Kerala! -god's own country...

I wanted to post something about my state Kerala, otherwise fondly called as- God’s own country.situated on the lush and tropical Malabar Coast of india,kerala enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Asia.
Since I’m Falling short of words to describe my beautiful place,why don’t you take a look at some beautiful pictures……














1.The word “kerala” means, land of coconuts.
KATHAKALI











2.Kathakali is a highly stylized classical dance of kerala noted for the attractive make-up of characters, elaborate costumes, detailed gestures and well-defined body movements presented in tune with the anchor playback music and complementary percussion.

3.Theyyam or thira is a popular ritual form of worship of North Malabar in Kerala state.

4.Alleppey or Alappuzha is also known as the "Venice of the East" its was here that traders from across the seven seas came in search of black gold and souvenirs

5.The Athirappilly Falls is situated on the Chalakudy river,originates in the upper reaches of the Western Ghats.Its breathtakingly beautiful.

6.Thiruvathira is a Hindu festival celebrated in Kerala on the full moon day of the month of Dhanu (December or January).


BAKAL FORT














7.The beautiful Bakal Beach with Bakal Fort in the background, is of great historical and archaeological interest. Once held by Tipu Sultan the fort, was later incorporated into the domain of the English East India Company.Its one of the four famous forts of kerala. 


MUNNAAR
8.Munnar is a haven of peace and tranquility. 

The favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. Unending expanse of tea plantations, pristine valleys and mountains,exotic species of flora and fauna in its wild sanctuaries and forests,aroma of spice, scented cool air.This is munnar

9.Thrissur Pooram is one of the most beautiful  and colorful festivals.



EDAKKAL CAVES


















10.Edakkal Caves are two natural caves located 1,200 metres above sea level in the Wayanad Distric of KeralaInside the caves are pictorial writings believed to be dating to at least 5000 BC, from the neolithic man indicating the presence of prehistoric civilization or settlement in this region.

12.The most important event in Vishu is the Vishukkani, which literally means " the first thing seen on the day of Vishu after waking up.


ONAM


13.Onam is the largest festival in the Indian state of Kerala.it falls  during the first month of the Malayalam calendar which is Chingam (August–September) and marks the homecoming of the legendary King Maveli.

14.The high point of these festivals (onam and vishu)  is the Ona Sadhya, which is a lavish 5-course meal served on a fresh, green banana leaf. The number of items served during this meal are typically between 35 to 50.

15.This boat race is the oldest and most popular Vallam kali (snake boat race) in  Kerala state

15.Lakes with bloomed lotuses are a common sight.

















GREEN FIELDS











16.Kerala would not have been green had it not been for its lush paddy fields and the two seasons of monsoons which support cultivation of rice.These fields give a cooling effect to anyone’s eyes…

    I especially like the celebration of Vishukkani, and eventhough I am not Hindu, I think it would be a lovely and very special tradition to create on any new year.

  11. but wat do u mean by Black Gold? If u have made reference to Pepper , then u r wrong..... Black Gold is Petrol. unfortunately alleppey doesnt possess any resources of Petroleum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
